The Palm Jumeirah is a man-made archipelago of islands in Jumeirah, Dubai. The area is shaped like a palm tree and is divided into three sections: the ‘trunk,’ which features residential and commercial areas; the ‘fronds,’ with large villas and homes; and the ‘outer crescent,’ home to luxury resorts and hotels.

Our first visit to Palm Jumeirah was not pleasant. An unscrupulous taxi driver took us to the residential area late at night, where almost everything was closed, and we were informed that we could not explore the area. Below are a few snaps I captured that night.

Luckily, fate had other plans for us. The final event of a multiday wedding we attended (more on that later) was the reception, held at the Waldorf Astoria—one of the most luxurious hotels in the area.

A long taxi drive took us on a scenic tour of the outer crescent giving us a great view of the shore line and some of the hotels in the area.

One of the most unique and luxurious hotels in here is the Atlantis.
