Based on a book of the same name by Harlan Coben, Tell No One is a complex romantic thriller film where a doctor tries to uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of his wife. The film is directed by Guillaume Canet.
Dr. Alexandre Beck (François Cluzet), a pediatrician, and his wife Margot (Marie-Josée Croze) are madly in love with each other. One night, while the couple is enjoying a romantic swim at a lake, Margot suddenly disappears from Alexandre’s view. Then, an unseen assailant knocks Alexandre unconscious.
Eight years later, Alexandre is still struggling with his sorrow over Margot’s disappearance. He has isolated himself from his lesbian sister, Anne, who meets with him and suggests that he should get past his grief and move on.
He then receives an email with a video showing footage of Margot, suggesting that she is still alive. Around this time, Charlotte is mysteriously murdered by a sadistic duo of killers—a man and a woman. The police suspect Alexandre of the murder and attempt to apprehend him, but he escapes and goes on the run.
While Alexandre is evading capture, Anne and her lover, Hélène (Kristin Scott Thomas), hire a lawyer, Elisabeth (Nathalie Baye), to defend him. Alexandre is now being targeted by both the police and the mysterious killers.
He digs deeper into the disappearance of Margot, enlisting the help of Bruno (Gilles Lellouche), a gangster who owes him a favor. So begins a game of cat and mouse, where Alexandre must save himself and unravel the truth about whether Margot is alive or dead.
Great acting from all the cast, especially François Cluzet, along with good direction, slick cinematography, and a fast-paced plot, keeps the viewer’s interest and makes the movie an enjoyable experience. While the plot is improbable, it is multilayered, has a series of twists, and leads to an interesting climax.
