Here are some more highlights of our trip to Houston.

Marfreless, River Oaks Shopping Center

Concealed within the River Oaks Shopping Center is Marfreless, a speakeasy bar worth visiting in Houston. The ambiance and decor are impressive and on the upscale side. The menu lights up when opened, providing several great cocktail choices.

The bartenders are friendly and make excellent drinks. This is certainly one of Houston’s hidden gems.

Tequila 45

We could not resist the allure of this Mexican bar- restaurant, right next-door to our place of stay. The restaurants, decor and ambiance was alluring and the staff was extremely competent and friendly.

Several large TVs in the large bar make this a great venue to watch a game or for a get-together with friends. The drinks are reasonably priced and the Pina Colada I tried was filling and delicious. The Tequila my lady had was extremely well prepared.

The baked shrimp appetizer we ordered was delicious too. This is a place we would revisit when we return to Houston.

Downtown Houston

While it may not have the vibe of Austin’s Sixth Street, Houston’s downtown eludes its own charm. Walls of building all over Houston flaunt beautiful murals and graffiti on them, to attract tourists and transform neighborhoods. Downtown Houston is no exception and is a great place for an evening walk where one can appreciate the beauty of art, and choose to drink or dine from numerous options.

The Dirt Bar

If you are in the mood for a spooky experience, the Dirt Bar in downtown Houston is worth checking out. It’s gothic decor and heavy metal set the tone for a deliciously wicked atmosphere. The drinks are great too.

Tom’s Watch Bar

Everything is big in Texas and Tom’s watch bar is one of the largest bar restaurants in Downtown Houston. With one gigantic screen and numerous smaller screens, this would be the ultimate place to watch a game with friends or family. The bartender made one of the best dirty Bloody Marys, I have ever had. My wife’s Tequilla was great too!
