Bengaluru, A Homecoming of Sorts-III

Sanadige – Goldfinch Hotel, Seshadripuram, Bengaluru

A short walk from the Renaissance leads to Sanadige, a seafood restaurant offering dishes from several Indian coastal states. This would be our late lunch. The menu included mouth-watering spicy dishes like fried fish, Mangalorean Fish Curry, paneer curry, and more. A Mangalorean bread made of rice (a seeming contradiction) formed the base of this meal. It was delicious and packed with subtle flavors. We ordered a plethora of dishes to savor as many flavors as we could. Another highlight of this lunch was ‘Coconut Payasam’, a coconut-based dessert that tasted like flavored condensed milk. This will be another lasting experience, undoubtedly noted for my future trips.

This hidden gem is located in the Goldfinch Hotel in Seshadripuram.

Bangalore Turf Club

Later in the evening, my cohorts and I visited the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) located near the Race Course for dinner. The bright lights that illuminated the racetrack created a surreal experience, showcasing the beauty of Bengaluru. The club, inaugurated in May 1921, has a rich history that dates back to the British Raj. There is little doubt that dignitaries and public figures have spent time at this very venue, right from the days of the Raj.

Old photos from a bygone era occupy the club’s entrance. On the second floor is the banquet hall, beautified by chandeliers and displaying numerous trophies. A door led to an outdoor seating area, where patrons have enjoyed watching races or placed bets for more than a century. Once again, the view of the course adorned by lights was a sight to behold.

Two outstanding dishes that the club is known for are its Fish Curry and Mutton Biryani. Besides these delicacies, the peanut snacks, fried snacks, and drinks completed the evening.

Well, not quite. We adjourned our get-together to one of the rooms of our cohorts at the Renaissance Hotel, where we reminisced about our past (more recent in comparison to the club’s history) and celebrated our time together. What a way to end the night!
